Are your willow, seagrass, and wood products chemically treated?Updated an hour ago
We understand why you want to know what materials are used around your small pet.
Our safety commitment
Small Pet Select does not sell products treated with harmful chemicals or products known to be unsafe for their intended use. We select our products with small-pet safety in mind.
Hay and pesticide questions
The hay we purchase is 100% pesticide-free. Not all of our hay or products are organic. Some hay fields are treated with herbicide (24D) once a year after harvest to control broadleaf weeds and pests before the next planting.
If you’re asking about a specific hay product or lot, contact us with the product name and we’ll verify the available details for you.
Willow and seagrass products
Our willow products are made from natural, air-dried willow and are not chemically treated. Our seagrass products are made from dried seagrass and are not chemically treated.
Apple-wood chews
Our apple chew sticks are made from natural apple wood and are not treated with harmful chemicals.
Wood toys, puzzles, and hideouts
Our wood toys, puzzles, hideouts, and habitat pieces use materials selected to be pet-safe and non-toxic for their intended use. Materials may include birch veneer plywood, pine core, professional-grade wood, and food-grade soy-based adhesive, depending on the product.
Because construction varies by product, treatment details can vary too. If you have a question about a specific item, contact us with the product name and we’ll verify the details for you.
Introducing a new product
We recommend supervising your pet with any new toy or habitat item and checking it regularly for wear. If your pet has allergies or other sensitivities, consult your exotic veterinarian before introducing a new product.
