How is my hay packaged and shipped?Updated 3 hours ago
At Small Pet Select, we've designed our hay boxes specifically to keep your hay as fresh as possible. Here's what to expect when your order arrives.
How we ship hay
Your hay ships directly inside its specially designed hay box — you'll notice the shipping label is applied right to the outside of the box. We don't use an outer shipping box. Our hay boxes are built to let the hay breathe while protecting it from sunlight and handling during transit, which helps preserve its freshness and quality.
Box styles by size
We offer two different box styles depending on the size you order:
- 2 lb, 5 lb, 10 lb, and 12 lb sizes: These come in a flap-style box that opens from the sides.
- 20 lb and 40 lb sizes: These come in a top-open box that opens from the top, similar to a standard shipping box.
If you'd prefer a top-open box, choosing a 20 lb or 40 lb size is the best option. You can see an example of each box style by selecting different weights on our product pages.
Can I request double-boxing or a bag?
We understand some customers are used to receiving hay in sealed plastic bags or inside an outer shipping box. Unfortunately, double-boxing and sealed bag packaging are not options we currently offer for any hay size or order type.
Occasionally, orders that include multiple hay boxes or additional items (like toys or chews) may be packed together inside a larger shipping box based on total order weight — but this isn't guaranteed and can't be requested.
Concerned about your order?
If your hay arrived with damaged packaging or you're worried the product may have been compromised during shipping, please contact our Customer Success team within 48 hours of delivery. Include photos of the exterior of the box, any visible damage, the hay inside, and the shipping label. Please hold on to all packaging materials until our team has had a chance to review.
